Playing Hooky
Tortilla Soup.
I took 3 sick days off work last week leading up to the weekend. I feel fantastic.
During my illegal vacation, I went on a bike ride every day, joined an athletics club, reignited my game project, did art, and slept. I am on the very edge of quitting this job and it doesn't feel as scary anymore. It feels good.
I already have a few drafts for my one week notice written up. They're a bit old, and full of gripes. I'll write a much simpler one once I decide to pull the trigger.
I'm stoked to start working on a game again.
Balls.
I played squash with my brother for the first time and that shit rocks. You just have to keep the ball above a line on the wall, don't let it bounce twice, and don't get hit.
Hopefully we can play again this week. I don't really see myself using the athletics club's weight room, so the pool and squash court are my main thing. I wish there was a public one.
Earlier last week, I played pickleball for the first time too. Much easier than squash, and it's free. There's a court next to my place in a park. I don't see myself playing there often though.
The court is usually packed full of crunchy boomers that take the game very seriously.
Unfortunately, pickleball is just tennis for people who own an SUV, a truck, two quads, and a track home. The gen-x guys with a goatee, backwards fitted flat brim hat, camo cargo-jorts, and a punisher decal on their truck. And their wives; Mid 40s, crispy blonde dyed hair, yoga pants and a tank top, baseball cap with a ponytail through the back of it, huge crossover-SUV with a blue lives matter flag decal. The modern nuclear family.
The type to buy both of their little kids Surron e-bikes, and still advocate that bike lanes are the reason for traffic.
Corn syrup. Red 40. Coors Light. Hose water. Herd immunity. Smartphone addiction. Missionary sex. Cable TV. Trader Joes.
These are the ingredients for the ultimate lifeform.
I hope one day to be like them.
Glad I took the time off. I'm looking forward to the next break.
Also check this video out. I wanna be friends with Vibri too...
